Build your first weekly forecast

  1. Start with available cash at the beginning of the forecast.
  2. Enter receipts in the week you expect the cash to arrive.
  3. Enter payroll, vendor payments, taxes, and other outflows in their expected payment weeks.
  4. Include one-time cash events separately from recurring operating activity.
  5. Set a minimum cash reserve and inspect the weeks that approach it.
  6. Refresh actual receipts and payments each week and roll the forecast forward.

Keep cash timing distinct from reported revenue

A booked sale and a cash receipt may occur in different periods. A weekly cash forecast follows when money is expected to move, rather than when revenue or expenses appear in accrual financial statements.

Use the output in a decision

Compare the expected cash position with your reserve before committing to hiring, a major purchase, or a change in payment timing. Review assumptions with your finance team and update them as facts change.
